Construction

Our construction sector supports clients to source candidates to deliver traditional public and private sector bulding projects. The public sector division of Unearth focuses on sourcing operational and commercial candidates with the skill set to deliver the £10.5bn of healthcare projects allocated to 2025, alongside the Department of Education’s £6.4bn future school’s programme. The private sector division focuses upon sourcing candidates to support with the delivery of retail, commercial, and residential projects.

Highways

The government has spent £12bn on works to the country’s road network over the past 12 months and Unearth careers have supported a number of Tier 1 contractors to source their staff for the delivery of these critical projects. A further £5.4bn is ringfenced on delivering motorway improvements and the Smart Motorway over the next two years make up a large part of the investment into our national road infrastructure. We are currently supporting with RIS2 providing £28bn for the period between 2020-25.

Infrastructure

Our infrastructure division support source candidates for the construction of bridges, tunnels and flyovers used in road and railway transport, or for other specific applications such as water distribution. The national yearly spend across the past five years averages £1.5bn. Works in this area are heavily dependent on other areas of concern; like the Road Investment Strategy which unearth support with the recruitment of both operational and commercial teams within this key sector.

Housing

The Government pledged to build 300,000 new homes per year and Unearth are supporting with staffing solutions to meet this demand. A further £6bn has been pledged to improve the energy efficiency of homes which will also come online for the period 2025-28 which we are sourcing team members who specialise in decarbonisation and retrofit projects. Specialist demolition staff are also key to delivering the 2bn that is available for the remediation of brownfield sites across the country to stimulate interest for future housing developments.

Mechanical & Electrical

Mechanical and Electrical (M&E), is key to all construction schemes. That is reflected in the percentage of a projects budget which is spent on M&E, this can be up to 30% of a typical construction project and 40% of a healthcare scheme. Beyond that M&E has evolved to also cater to the Net Zero requirements facing the country. This takes the form of renewable energy technologies. The Government has made funds available to the public sector for these measures via the £1.4bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund which Unearth are supporting with.
